Set off for a day exploring Trujillo and Huanchaco accompanied by your expert guide!
To start your day, you'll set off to discover Trujillo, Peru's 3rd largest city. Take a look at the beautiful colonial houses with their imposing gates and balconies. You'll also love the Plaza de Armas and its unusual cathedral. Accompanied by your guide, you will continue your visit by heading to the Trujillo Archaeological Museum. There, you'll learn more about the region's pre-Columbian cultures, from its first inhabitants over 12,000 years ago!
You'll then head to the "Huaca del Dragón", an ancient ceremonial temple dedicated to the rainbow, which symbolised fertility and rain in the Chimú culture. The day continues in the seaside town of Huanchaco, where you can watch the local fishermen. You'll see their traditional "Caballitos de Totora", unusual watercraft that have been used on the northern coast of Peru since pre-Columbian times.
Finally, your guide will take you to the archaeological site of Chan Chan, the largest city in pre-Columbian America, once the proud capital of the Chimú kingdom. In the heart of this group of fortified citadels, you can marvel at the host of decorations carved into the pagoda. Your guide will tell you about the legends surrounding this place and the many treasures discovered here.
At the end of the day, you will be taken back to your hotel in Trujillo.
