Discover the flora and fauna of the Galápagos Islands at the Charles Darwin Research Station and walk among the giant tortoises and iguanas on Turtle Bay Beach!
Leaving from your hotel in Puerto Ayora, you'll begin your excursion with a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station, which is located in the Galápagos National Park. Find out all about the unique flora and fauna of these islands and Charles Darwin's research into the theory of natural selection. There is also a breeding centre for giant tortoises in this complex. These wild animals represent one of the most emblematic species of the archipelago, with a life expectancy that can reach up to 100 years on average.
After visiting the centre, it's time for a hike to the famous Turtle Bay beach. Pass through a tropical forest and admire the cacti typical of the Galápagos. Gaze out at the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean as you reach the sand dunes of Turtle Bay. This huge beach is divided into two areas: a natural part where many species of wildlife such as marine iguanas and giant tortoises live, and another part where you can find surfers who come to take advantage of the strong currents and tides. Swimming is not recommended at this beach, but you'll have the opportunity to walk up close to the marine wildlife. You can also visit the second beach, which is more idyllic and peaceful. It was ranked among the Top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world in 2017.
At the end of this half-day excursion, you will be transported back to your hotel. You may choose to have lunch at a restaurant in the city (optional) before returning to your hotel.
